Visit the Kapahu Farm

At the Kapahu Farm, you can walk through 2.5 acres of restored lo‘i (taro patches), smell the scent of banana, and feel the softness of a taro leaf. You will hear the trickling of water as it bubbles up from natural springs and flows from taro bed to taro bed. You will see ulu (breadfruit), wet and dryland taro, coconut, sugarcane, and banana. Come, meet Native Hawaiians whose families have lived in Kipahulu for generations. Learn and experience the practice of malama ka ‘aina as it has been lived for centuries.

On your visit to the Kapahu Farm you can:

• Tour the ancient lo‘i of Kipahulu.
• Get your feet in the mud and learn hands-on traditional taro cultivation methods.
• Prepare lauhala (leaves of the hala tree) for the weaving of mats, baskets and toys.
• Learn traditional medicinal uses of plants growing around you.
• Pound taro root into poi--and dip your fingers in for a taste!
• Experience old Hawai‘i with modern Native Hawaiians.
